The bank of intraverts is the set of intraverts you have created. The intravert widget picks from it, showing one intravert at a time to the people it is aimed at. This page goes through the intravert edit screen from top to bottom. To make intraverts appear you also need to place the widget: see Place intravert widgets.
Go to Intraverts in the admin menu and select Add new. The title is for you: it is how you find the intravert in the admin list and in the widget, and staff never see it.
What the intravert shows
Featured image
Optional, but intraverts work best with one. It fills the width of the widget area, wide and about half as tall, so choose an image that reads as a call to action. If there is a destination, the image is a link to it. If there is no destination and no button, selecting the image closes the intravert.
Content
Optional free-format content shown under the image: text, an image, a video. Keep it short. Links inside the content count as a click on the intravert, so it is hidden afterwards in the same way as the button.
Link text
The words on the button, shown under the content, or straight under the image if there is no content. Use a call to action, such as “Book your place”. If there is a destination and you leave this blank, the button says “Find out more”. If there is no destination, the button simply closes the intravert.
Destination page
The intranet page to go to when someone selects the button or the image. Leave it empty for an intravert that only informs and then closes.
External destination URL
A full web address outside the intranet, if the intravert leads somewhere else. It opens in a new tab and the intravert closes behind it. If both are filled in, the external address wins.
How long it stays away
Cookie period (days)
Once someone selects the button, the image, a link in the content or the dismiss cross, the intravert is hidden in that person’s browser for this many days, in every widget area, then comes back if it is still eligible. The default for a new intravert is 30 days. Enter 0 for an intravert that never sets a cookie and shows on every page load, which suits a standing notice.
Allow skip
On by default. Adds a small cross in the top right so people can dismiss the intravert without going anywhere. Dismissing starts the cookie period in the same way as a click. Turn it off for something everyone must see.
Who sees it and when
An intravert with no conditions is shown to everyone the widget reaches. Every condition you set must be met.
Limit by date range
Tick it to show Start date and End date, each with a time. The intravert only appears between them. Leave either empty for no limit at that end. Use it to schedule a campaign, or to queue several intraverts so that they take turns.
Logged-in users only
Only show to people who are logged in, including subscribers. Ticking it reveals the four boxes below, because the intranet can only know someone’s role, team, grade or location once they are logged in.
Contributors only
Only show to people with the Contributor, Author, Editor or Administrator role: your publishers rather than all staff.
Target teams
Only show to people in the teams you choose. Choosing a team includes everyone in the teams beneath it, so choosing a directorate reaches all its departments. People in several teams see the intravert if any one of their teams is chosen.
Target grades
Only show to people whose profile has one of the chosen grades. Grades come from the list under Users, Grades.
Target locations
Only show to people whose profile has one of the chosen locations. Choosing a site includes everyone in the buildings beneath it. People with several locations see the intravert if any one of them is chosen. Locations come from the list under Users, Locations, which appears when the Locations module is on. Target content
Ties the intravert to the page it is shown on. It only does anything when the intravert widget sits in the Task sidebar or the News sidebar widget area, beside a single task or news story.
- All content: shown wherever the widget is placed. This is the default.
- Task category: shown only beside tasks in the category you pick, or one beneath it. Pick no category to mean any task. It never appears beside news or on other pages.
- News type: shown only beside news stories of the type you pick. Pick no type to mean any news story.
Use it to put an intravert about, say, the new expenses form beside every task in the Finance category, without it appearing on the homepage.
Which intravert is shown
- Only published intraverts are considered. Save a draft to take one out of circulation without deleting it.
- The widget shows one intravert at a time: the first in its list that the person is allowed to see and has not clicked or dismissed within its cookie period. With Shuffle order on, the list is shuffled first, so the choice is random among those that qualify.
- The hidden state is per browser, so the same person sees the intravert again on another device.
