Intraverts are the intranet’s adverts: small promotional panels, usually an image with a button, shown in widget areas to the people they are aimed at. They are for campaign messages, new policies, surveys, events and anything else that needs a push beyond a news story.
Why intraverts rather than banners
Traditional banners and carousels become annoying and ineffective. A rotating carousel makes the rest of the page hard to read, and the same advert sitting on the homepage for weeks causes banner-blindness while taking up valuable screen space. An intravert is different in two ways: it appears only when its conditions are met, such as a date range, the person’s team or the page being viewed, and it disappears once the person has clicked it or dismissed it. Each widget shows one intravert at a time, and when nothing qualifies it shows nothing.
Intraverts sit inside the page, in a widget area, alongside the content. Ultraverts are the floating kind that appear over the top of the page for messages that must interrupt: see Ultraverts guide.
Switch on the module
- Go to Options, then Modules. Only administrators can see it.
- On the Modules tab switch on Intraverts and select Update. An Intraverts item appears in the admin menu and the (Govintra) Intraverts widget becomes available under Appearance, Widgets.
- A Locations switch appears under the module list once Intraverts is on. Switch it on if you want to aim intraverts at people by building or site; it adds a Locations list under Users that staff profiles use. It also appears when the staff directory is on.
Switching the module off hides the Intraverts menu and silences every Intraverts widget, without deleting anything; switch it back on and the intraverts and widgets return as they were. See Module settings and options for the other modules.
Who can manage intraverts
Only administrators can create, edit and publish intraverts. Editors, authors and contributors do not see the Intraverts menu, because intraverts appear across the intranet rather than on one page and are usually run by the communications or intranet team. Any administrator can also place the widget.
