Creating intraverts is not enough to make them appear. They are shown by the (Govintra) Intraverts widget, and the widget has to be placed in a widget area and told which intraverts it may show. Each widget shows one intravert at a time, chosen from its own list. The Intraverts module must be on under Options, Modules, or the widget outputs nothing.
Add the widget to a widget area
- Go to Appearance, then Widgets. Govintra uses the classic widgets screen.
- Find (Govintra) Intraverts in the list of available widgets and add it to a widget area, or drag it there.
- Open the widget. It has no title box; the intravert appears without a heading.
- Under Eligible intraverts, search for and select the intraverts this widget may show. Drag them into order.
- Leave Shuffle order off to show the first eligible intravert in the list, or switch it on to pick at random from the eligible ones.
- Select Save. See Setup widgets on the homepage if you have not placed widgets before.
Which intravert the widget shows
The widget goes down its list and shows the first intravert that is published, inside its date range, allowed for the person looking (logged-in, role, team, grade, location), matching the page if it has Target content set, and not hidden by a click or dismissal within its cookie period. With Shuffle order on, the list is shuffled first. If nothing qualifies, the widget prints nothing, so there is no empty box. The rules themselves are described in Create a bank of intraverts.
Widget areas and where they appear
The Intraverts widget can go in any widget area. The main ones are:
- Homepage hero area, Homepage full-width and the Homepage first, second and third column areas: the homepage.
- Task Sidebar: beside every single task and guide chapter. Tasks Landing: the How do I? page.
- News Sidebar: beside every news story and on news type listings. News Landing: the news page.
- Blog Sidebar and Blog Landing, Event Sidebar and Events Landing, Project Sidebar, Training Sidebar, Vacancy Sidebar, Team News Sidebar, News Update Sidebar: beside the matching content type.
- Page Sidebar and Page Sidebar (Right): ordinary pages and the left-nav page templates. Comms Hub Sidebar: the comms hub template.
- Search Results: the search results page. See Add a widget to the search results sidebar.
- Footer Left, Footer Right 1 and Footer Right 2: every page.
Sidebar areas are narrow, so an intravert there shows as a stacked image, text and button. In the full-width homepage area it stretches across the page.
Target content and the sidebars
An intravert whose Target content is set to a task category or a news type is only ever shown beside a single task or news story, so it only does anything when the widget is in the Task Sidebar or the News Sidebar. In any other area such an intravert is skipped and the widget moves on to the next in its list. Intraverts set to All content show wherever the widget is.
How many widgets to place
Use one Intraverts widget per widget area, and give each area its own list or order. Two widgets on the same page that both list the same intravert will show it twice, because each widget chooses on its own; the cookie from one hides it in the other only from the next page onwards. Placing the widget in several areas with the same list is fine as long as those areas are not on the same page. See Techniques for ideas on where intraverts work best.
