Timeline template

The Timeline template turns a page into a vertical timeline: a line down the page with a card for each step, each card carrying a title, an icon in a coloured circle and any content you like. Use it for the history of your organisation, the milestones of a project, the stages of a change programme, or an induction journey. It is added by the (Govintra) Timelines plugin, so it only appears in the template list when that plugin is active.

Choose the Timeline template

With the plugin active, go to the page, and in the Page Attributes box set Template to Timeline; see Change a page layout. Two boxes then appear: Timeline under the editor, where you add the items, and Timeline options in the right-hand column, which holds the Show colour filter switch. It is available for pages only.

Each item has a Title, Content, Icon and Colour. What each does, how to reorder and remove items, and how the colour filter works are all on the plugin page.

What a timeline page shows

  • The breadcrumb trail and the title.
  • Anything typed in the main editor, as an introduction above the timeline. Leave it empty and the timeline starts under the title.
  • If Show colour filter is on, a row of buttons: Show all and one button for each colour used, each wearing the icon of the first item of that colour. Selecting a colour hides the cards of every other colour.
  • The cards, in the order they are in the Timeline box. Each shows its title, if there is one, and its content. Its icon sits in a coloured circle on the line.
  • A page with no items says “No timeline items to display”.

The page has no sidebar. The Sidebar box and page widgets are not displayed, and files in the Document attachments box are not listed.

Layout on different screens

On a wide screen the line runs down the centre and the cards alternate, the first on the left, the second on the right, and so on. On a phone the line moves to the left edge and every card sits to its right, in the same order. The cards follow the intranet’s dark mode.
