Govintra post-migration checklist

The migration process from Govintranet to Govintra is initiated when you activate the Govintra theme. The process attempts to map your existing page templates to the new templates available in the theme. Widgets are mapped from old homepage and sidebar areas to new widget areas. Custom colours are preserved in the customiser.

Manual migration tasks

For installations that use staff directory avatars, likes, and the Wonderwall – some post-migration tasks are necessary. You’ll find new menu options under Tools:

  1. Migrate Avatars
  2. Migrate Wonderwall
  3. Migrate Likes

Run these migration tools after the new theme is activated.

Check Option settings and icons

Check all settings under:

  1. Options – General
    1. Style: new options for image sizes and Font Awesome sets.
    2. Text and features: new option for Likes.
  2. Options – Search
    1. General: new options for search icon.
    2. Autocomplete: new options to activate search auto-complete in the search box.
  3. Options – Modules
    1. New modules and options for icons.

In particular, check where we used to use Glyphicons. The migration process attempts to map old icons to the Font Awesome set, but we only cover a small set of popular icons. You may need to specify new icons from the Font Awesome set for items such as the “Need to know” default icon in the news module.

Also check your icons in the News update type taxonomy and the new Wonderwall awards category taxonomy.

Check templates

New templates in Govintra replace various templates in Govintranet. The migration process attempts to map pages with templates to the new templates. In particular, check the following:

  1. Home page should have the new Homepage template.
  2. How do I page should have the new How do I template. This consolidates various alternative templates into one, with a new Layout option.
  3. News page should be assigned to the new News template, which consolidates various news/blog/news updates templates into one.

New Comms hub template

Govintra has a new “Comms hub” template that is designed to be the main landing page for news, blogs and news updates, linking off to separate archive listing pages. We recommend creating a new “News” main page using the Comms hub template. Then use your existing pages to create sub pages for the main News page: for news archive, blog archive and news update archive. Three new templates exist for these archive listings:

  • News listing
  • Blog listing
  • News update listing

In Options, Modules, set these pages as the main pages for News, Blog posts and New updates. The Comms hub page uses these settings to provide links to the archive pages.

New Team listing template

If you use the staff directory and teams module, this new template can be used to create an automated list of teams and sub-teams, providing a useful display of how departments are organised.

Check widgets

New widgets replace old widgets in the system. The migration process attempts to map widget placements from your Govintranet theme to the new widget areas. Check the following widgets and replace as necessary if you find any missing:

  • Wonderwall widget
  • Feedback widget

Deactivate legacy plugins

After activation, the system will display notices to deactivate plugins that are no longer required. Some plugins are deactivated automatically as part of the migration process.
