What is Govintra?

Govintra is an intranet built on WordPress, created by Agento Digital. It is designed around the tasks staff come to the intranet to do, in the plain, accessible style of GOV.UK, so that people find what they need and get on with their work. Organisations from 50 to 10,000 staff use it.

Govintra is a theme and a set of plugins. Install them on WordPress and you have a complete intranet, without building anything. There is no charge per user: one annual subscription covers the whole organisation. See Prices and subscriptions.

What is built in

Each part of Govintra is a module that you switch on or off. The modules are:

  • Tasks and guides: the “How do I?” area, with guidance categorised and tagged so staff can search and browse.
  • News, news updates for short-lived alerts, and blog posts from colleagues, with comments and likes.
  • Staff directory: profiles, teams, managers and an organisation tree. Staff can be found by name, keyword or team, and keep their own profiles up to date.
  • Teams and team news.
  • Events, with maps and booking forms, and a training catalogue.
  • Projects and job vacancies, which expire automatically after the closing date.
  • A to Z, jargon buster and a document finder.
  • Intraverts, promotional panels aimed at teams or locations, and ultraverts, self-placing promotional content.
  • Wonderwall, where colleagues thank each other.

Alongside the modules are a homepage built from widgets, page templates for landing pages, timelines and hashtag pages, a search built on Relevanssi with filters and autocomplete, dark mode, and a customiser for your logo, colours, header and footer.

The plugins

Fifteen Govintra plugins are included in the subscription. They add reports for administrators on content, comments, likes and search terms; an accessibility review of all published content; favourites and notifications for staff; forum housekeeping; timeline pages; a media A to Z; and the chat interface for Agento Intelligence. Every plugin is documented on this help site.

Accessibility and security

Govintra follows the GOV.UK Design System, so pages are accessible by default, and an accessibility copilot warns editors about common problems as they save. It is ordinary WordPress underneath, so your IT team can host it, back it up and secure it in the usual ways, or Agento Digital can host it for you in the UK. Single sign-on with Microsoft accounts is supported.

Updates and help

The subscription includes updates to the theme and plugins, delivered through the WordPress updates screen, plus this help site and the user forum. Support hours, training, hosting and custom development are available separately from Agento Digital.
